Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.

Fans can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
